Read the calorie numbers here as estimates, not as a health measurement. Here is where they stop.
Estimates from average data
The figures come from MET values in the Compendium of Physical Activities, which describe an average person. Your real energy use depends on fitness, body composition, terrain, incline and stride, so two people doing the same walk can burn quite different amounts. Take the result as a ballpark.
Not medical or dietary advice
These calculators do arithmetic; they do not know your health. Nothing here is medical, dietary or training advice. Before starting a new exercise plan, changing your diet or if you have a health condition, talk to a doctor or a qualified professional.
Weight loss is more than steps
Burning calories is only one side of weight change; what you eat matters just as much. Do not treat a calorie estimate as a licence to eat it back, and do not rely on these figures for a strict deficit.
The bottom line
We use recognised MET values and take care, but we cannot promise a figure matches your actual burn, and we take no responsibility for decisions made on the strength of it.
