How it works
pace (min/mile) = time (min) ÷ distance (miles)speed (mph) = distance ÷ (time ÷ 60)
- time
- how long you were moving, in minutes
- distance
- how far you went, in miles
- pace
- minutes it takes to cover one mile
Pace and speed describe the same effort two ways: pace counts minutes per mile, speed counts miles per hour. A 15 min/mile pace and a 4 mph speed are identical.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate my pace?
Divide your time in minutes by the distance in miles. 45 minutes over 3 miles is a 15 min/mile pace.
What is a good walking pace?
A brisk walk is around 15 to 17 minutes per mile, roughly 3.5 to 4 mph.
How do I turn pace into speed?
Divide 60 by your minutes per mile. A 15 min/mile pace is 60 ÷ 15, or 4 mph.
What pace is a 20-minute mile?
A 20-minute mile is 3 mph, an easy strolling pace.
Does this work for running?
Yes, the same maths applies. For race projections and a min/km line, use the running pace calculator.
